"From La Belle Époque"
A very pretty, French, early 20th century, Samson of Paris, fluted, vase shaped, antique porcelain lamp in formal style. The elegant lamp decorated in a Chinese Famille Rose palette of enamels, painted with loose bouquets, sprays and sprigs of peony flowers.
The neck of the lamp painted in pink enamel with a Chinese ruyi shaped border. The base of the lamp enamelled in sky blue with a ruyi shaped border. The sides of the lamp with affixed formal bouquets of bronze-doré, or, gilt bronze roses, buds and foliage, the rose stems tied with an elaborate, gilt, bronze ribbon.
The finely made rose bouquets of superb quality. The decorative style of this lamp is derived from the 18th century French practice of combining Chinese porcelain and French bronze-doré to such beautiful effect. The lamp top terminating with a fine bronze-doré acanthus moulded lamp holder.
The lamp seated in a very fine quatrefoil bronze-doré lamp base. The lamp in original condition including the ormolu gilding. At some point there has been a minor repair to a gilt bronze rose stem. This beautiful Belle Époque era French lamp shown with a pleated, lilac silk lamp shade suggestion, so completing the classic look.
