I must go down to the sea again, to the lonely sea and the sky and all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by. John Masefield (1878-1967)
A large and very fine Wedgwood, jar shaped, porcelain antique table lamp. The lamp printed in a rich flow blue with the “Ferrara” print. This famous Wedgwood print was first introduced in 1832 and is recorded as being taken from a set of engravings by William Brooks, published in that same year.
The print depicts the northern Italian harbor of Ferrara with tall sailing ships riding at anchor. To the left of the print can be seen the castle of the Dukes of Este.
The bottom half of the lamp, fluted and the flared base printed with a band of wild flowers. The lamp fitted with its original domed cover and seated in a custom turned and polished American maple wood stand. This handsome lamp shown with a navy blue, knife pleated, silk shade suggestion.
