A very elegant, vintage Italian Mottahedeh lamp, the shape inspired by a Chinese bronze, Fang Hu shaped (square jar) archaic ceremonial vessel.
The form of the lamp, although in Chinese style, is decorated in a formal neo classic manner. The central decoration of flower filled vase subjects on white reserves framed in oval borders of burnt orange. The white reserves with wide orange borders, over gilded with stylised classical acanthus. The side panels decorated with subjects of floral bouquets.
The decorative palette of burnt orange and gold producing a strikingly rich decorative result. The lamp seated in an antique, 19th century, rectangular shaped Chinese stand of very fine quality. The lamp shown with a burnt orange, silk shade suggestion.
Mottahedeh : Rafi and Mildred Mottahedeh were avid collectors of Chinese porcelain and established the Mottahedeh Porcelain Company in the 1950’s. Many of the company’s productions were derived from Chinese porcelain shapes chosen from their extensive private collection of antique Chinese export pieces.
Mottahedeh commissioned its beautifully decorated porcelains to be made by Portuguese and Italian companies. Mottahedeh is today, a recognised leader in luxury antique reproductions and has produced porcelain for the US President, the US State Department and the American Diplomatic Corps.
