A very smart, vintage, Chinese export, red lacquered accent lamp, or task light. The lamp of distinctive Art Deco style, the principle decoration being a wide band of stylised peony flowers and foliage.
Although China did not have an Art Deco era as such, export pieces, such as this accent lamp, were exported to the Western market. The lamp seated in a turned maple wood stand in Chinese black lacquer. The lamp designed for a 25w lamp holder. The lamp shown with a black, pleated silk shade suggestion.
The Colour Red.
In both traditional China and in modern China, the colour red has a very significant symbolism which has developed over China's long history. Red is still, today, the symbol of prosperity and happiness. It also signifies, enthusiastic, good luck, celebration, happiness, joy, vitality and long life. The Chinese interior always includes “something red”.
Accent lamps are designed to produce a mood, a look or feel in a room, rather than providing a major source of light in a space. In general, an accent lamp is a relatively small lamp, with usually no more than a maximum height of about 20" / 50cm including the lamp shade. Accent lamps also serve as decorative accents within a room.
