A very attractive, mid 19th century, Chinese antique lamp of curvaceous style. The lamp decorated with an attractive pastel green ground and over decorated with magenta flower heads and pale green tendrils.
The lamp with two well-painted, large mirror shaped reserves with subjects of black and white songbirds perched on formations of jade green Linzhi or sacred fungus. The Linzhi represents eternal life and is one of the ten symbols of longevity.
The Linzhi surrounded by branches of flowering peonies in shaded magenta and pale lemon with flower buds, moths and butterflies. The Peony in Chinese art signifies summer, love and affection. It is also a synonym for nobility and gracefulness.
The lamp seated on a custom made, polished rosewood base, the domed lamp cap of polished rosewood. This is a very attractive lamp, enamelled in a subtle palette of pastel colours. The lamp pictured with a jade, waisted cone, silk shade suggestion.
