D072 A Pretty Antique Edwardian Flower Painted Royal Doulton Lamp - Circa 1905

A very pretty, English, Edwardian era, Royal Doulton antique lamp.  The lamp of fluted oval shape and decorated with large loose bouquets, sprays and sprigs of English summer flowers including roses, poppies, tulips and daises.

The rim and base of the lamp enamelled with an apple green border.  The lamp seated on a custom made, shaped maple wood, water gilded base, the lamp cap of water gilded maple.  This is a very pretty lamp with a delicate, fresh appeal.  The lamp shown with an ashes of roses, silk shade suggestion.

The Royal Doulton company takes its name from John Doulton who was born in London at Fulham in 1793, he learned his trade at the Fulham Manufacturing Company, well known as one of the first English commercial producers of stoneware, the company was founded by master potter John Dwight in 1688.

John Doulton completed his apprenticeship, earning a reputation as one of the best pot throwers in London.  In 1815, on the eve of Waterloo, John Doulton was taken into partnership by the widow Martha Jones who had inherited, from her late husband, a pottery in Vauxhall Walk, Lambeth, by the side of the Thames.  Her foreman, John Watts, was also taken into partnership and the firm became Jones, Watts and Doulton.  The company is still in operation.
