"Make it simple, but significant" Don Draper
A tall and slender pair of vintage, French mid 20th century tôleware lamps. The lamps with a bright, deep blue enamel ground. The style typical of the form of early 60's design, simple, practical and stylish.
The term tôle or tôleware is derived from the French tôle peinte "painted sheet metal" and is synonymous in English with Japanning on tin such as the tôle shades for bouilotte lamps, candle shades and trays.
Tôleware began in France in the early 18th century and was originally produced to imitate the expensive decorated porcelains being imported from China and Japan. These early tole wares were lacquered or enamelled.
I believe that the inscrutable Mr Draper has captured the essence of this slender pair of French tôleware lamps with the quote as above "Make it simple, but significant".
The lamps in fine vintage condition, however, there is some discoloration to the metal fittings. The lamps are unrestored except for being newly rewired. The lamps shown with ivory silk shade suggestions. The lamps wired for 25w lamp holders.
