"Glamorous By Day, Glamorous By Night".

A very fine, tall, French Art Deco era lamp produced at Sèvres and designed by Paul Milet (1870-1950).  The lamp with a bright, rich shaded azure/sapphire glaze and seated in the original, gold plated stand.

The Art Deco began in Europe, particularly in Paris, during the early years of the 20th century.  The movement developed in strength after the first world war and reigned up to the outbreak of the second world war.  Art Deco circa 1908 - 1935.

Paul Milet was born in 1870 and received his early training as a ceramicist in the Sèvres colour laboratory.  Milet came from a “porcelain family” with his father, Felix Milet, operating a porcelain company founded in 1866.  His brother-in-law also was a director of the famous Limoges porcelain company.

Milet exhibited at the 1897 Salon of French Artists with unique pieces and after exhibiting at the French Universal Exhibition of 1900, received a high distinction award.  He was also awarded a gold medal for his earthenware, decorated with a rich palette of glazes, as shown by this lamp.

Milet went on to hold many Paris exhibitions and displayed his wares at the famous Galleries Lafayette and at Gallery Delvaux, 18 rue Royale.

Paul Milet died in 1950, his ceramic legacy now with an international following.  Portrait shown of Paul Milet.

The base of the lamp marked "PM–Sèvres" and "Made in France".  The lamp shown with a pleated, Royal Blue silk shade suggestion.
