E098 Japanese "Wedgwood Style" Candlestick Accent Lamp - Circa 1910

             Unapologetically Pretty!

A very pretty Japanese “Moriage” work, antique candlestick, accent lamp, or task light in Wedgwood style.  The lamp produced during the Nippon era, "Nippon" being the Japanese word for Japan.  Japanese ceramics produced from 1891–1921 were marked “Nippon” as is this example.

The lamp bordered with a pale blue ground in the style of Wedgwood’s blue jasper.  The border of the base and top of the candlestick decorated with lace like “Moriage” work.  This decorative technique was highly skilled and required labor intensive workmanship.  The Moriage work was applied as a liquid clay slip, somewhat in the style of piping in cake decoration.  This meticulous form of decoration is no longer practiced.

The candlestick finely painted in naturalistic style with pink roses, buds and foliage.  The lamp fitted with a faux candle and seated in a custom made, gold plated, bronze base combining to produce a very pretty lamp.  This little lamp, perfect for a lady's bed side table, a writing desk, or just a favourite spot.  The lamp shown with a pleated, baby blue, silk shade suggestion.  The lamp designed with a 25w lamp socket.

Accent Lamps
Accent lamps are designed to produce a mood a look or feel in a room, rather than providing a major source of light in a space.  In general, an accent lamp is a relatively small lamp, with usually no more than a maximum height of about 20" / 50cm including the lamp shade.  Accent lamps also serve as decorative accents within a room.
