A tall, decorative 19th century, baluster shaped Meiji era, Japanese Kutani antique lamp. The lamp decorated in the traditional Kutani palette of iron red, black and touches of apricot. The lamp well painted with a subjects of Japanese scholars and sages seated beneath flowering trees.
The reverse side with subjects of birds, shrubs and flowering trees. The two major decorative panels divided by shaped reserves painted with flowers and grasses. The decoration and iron red ground delicately gilded.
The lamp set into a gold plated bronze ring and seated in a polished, antique Japanese open work stand. The custom made, domed lamp cover of gold plated bronze. This is a tall lamp, 20”/51cm high to the lamp socket / lamp holder. The lamp shown with a pleated, burnt orange, silk shade suggestion.
