“Light is the magical ingredient that makes or breaks a space; it’s one of the most important elements in all my interiors.”Interior designer Benjamin Noriega-Ortiz.

An outstanding 19th century, Japanese Imari, Meiji era, jar shaped lamp and domed cover of very large size.  The lamp decorated in the full palette of Imari colours, cobalt blue, burnt orange, iron red, green, pale blue and salmon, the lamp retaining its original gilding. Many of the Imari decorative styles were derived from 19th century Japanese Kimono fabrics which can be clearly identified.

The decoration of this lamp derived from Japanese fan shapes, with fans open and closed.  The front and reverse sides of the lamp painted as an open fan with a subject of water birds in a watery landscape.  Mandarin ducks and herons.

The scene beautifully painted with flowering cherry blossom, bamboo and bull rushes, the subject finely gilded. The original domed cover decorated on suite with the lamp base.

The lamp seated in an antique, 19th century Japanese, polished hardwood lamp stand of fine quality.  The lamp shown with a pleated, navy blue, silk shade suggestion. This large antique Imari lamp base stands 21”/54cm high without being fitted with a lampshade.
