A vintage American, Art Deco, Consolidated Glass Co, Bittersweet pattern lamp of classic style. The frosted glass lamp embossed with bittersweet fruits and foliage. The fruits in a pale mauve, the foliage in mint green. The lamp shown with a mauve, pleated silk shade suggestion.
The lamp seated in a custom made, solid bronze, gold plated stand. The lamp cap of gold plated bronze. This is a beautiful 1930's example from this famous American glass maker.
The Consolidated Lamp and Glass Company was the result of a 1893 merger of two firms, Fostoria Shade and Lamp Company of Ohio and Wallace and McAfee Company of Pittsburgh. The company initially had their production facilities in Ohio, but after a fire in 1895, were forced transfer to a new site in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania.
The main products of Consolidated were shades, lamps, and globes. They also created pattern glass tableware such as jugs, butter dishes, and sugar shakers. By the year 1910, Consolidated was the biggest lighting glass firm in the whole of the US with over 400 employee's.
Consolidated Lamp and Glass Company closed during the Great Depression. In the years following the Great Depression the company continued production as the Phoenix Glass Co. The company finely closing in 1967.
