Rafi and Mildred Mottahedeh were avid collectors of Chinese porcelain and established the Mottahedeh Porcelain Company in the 1950’s. Many of the company’s productions were based on Chinese shapes from their private collection of antique export pieces.
The company, although based in New York, commissioned its porcelains to be made by the Portuguese company of Vista Alegre, situated in the Aveiro District, located in the central coastal region of Portugal.
Mottahedeh is today, a recognised leader in luxury, antique reproductions and has produced porcelain for the US President, the US State Department and the American Diplomatic Corps.
An original pair of Chinese export Hu shaped vase are shown in Buckingham palace with HM the Queen and Mrs Michelle Obama during the 2011 state visit of President and Mrs Obama.
