"Due Signore Eleganti In Una Conversazione"
A very desirable, vintage Italian, majolica lamp of large size. The tall elegant lamp of bottle shape, superbly painted in a mulberry monochrome enamel. The lamp painted in the 18th century Italian formal garden style known as “boschetto” which translates as grove, or wood.
A garden of broad lawns with evenly spaced clipped trees, stone garden ornaments and fountains. The decorative subject centered on two elegant ladies, deep in conversation, standing on the wide lawn of a terraced, balustrade garden.
The ladies dressed in the typical full gowns of the 1780's period. The garden surrounded by tall, formal poplar trees, on the lawn, a massive marble vase, seated on a tall column. The artist has developed the painting with the perspective changing into forest woods as the eye moves to the left and right of the central subject.
This lamp shows the skill of a very accomplished free hand ceramic painter. The lamp with a custom made, gold plated, bronze cap and seated in a burnished, water gilded, American maple wood stand. The lamp shown with a pleated, ivory silk shade suggestion.
