A very pretty vintage, mid 20th century, Portuguese, Vista Alegre, Chinoiserie, jar shaped lamp. The lamp made for the Mottahedeh company. The lamp fluted with widely spaced panels and painted in a delicate palette of pastel enamels including muted pale pink, apricot, shades of green, burnt orange and touches of lemon.
The central decorative subject is a Chinese auspicious symbols of good fortune. A large bouquet, sprays and sprigs of oriental style summer flowers. The bouquet held in horn shaped vessel, tied in a gilded, burnt orange ribbon, a symbol of happiness and a life of ease.
The shoulder of the lamp decorated with alternating lappets of brocade in muted pale pink and burnt orange enamels. The lamp cover decorated en suite. The shaped rim of the cover and the base of the jar with a pale apricot band. The decoration of the jar and cover beautifully gilded. The lamp set into a gold plated ring and seated in a fine quality, antique Chinese stand. The lamp shown with a pleated, mint, silk shade suggestion.
