"Consider a colour scheme that inspires peace and tranquility. .A colour palette in lighter hues of blue, lavender, green and rose will create an ambience of relaxation and repose". Willa Roberson-Mitchell
An impressively tall, 19th century, Chinese monochrome, or single colour, long necked, bottle shaped antique lamp. The lamp enamelled in the descriptive colour used in Chinese ceramics, “Sky Before Rain”, a deep shade of lavender.
The history of ceramic production in China goes back several thousand years, from very early, simple pottery to some of the most sophisticated porcelain pieces ever seen. An incredible range of unique glaze colours were developed, with many being copied by later European porcelain makers.
All Chinese art is highly symbolic and the form of this lamp is no exception. The bottle shape with its bulbous belly and long neck, combine both slender and round, so producing the harmony and balance found in the combination of these matching opposites. In addition, this shape in Chinese, is known as "Tian Qiu Ping" or "heaven and earth" shape. The shape symbolising the ancient belief the the heaven was round and the earth was square.
The very fine quality antique Chinese cast brass base is this lamp's original antique, circa 1900 base. The lamp fitted with a gold plated lamp cap.
This is a very large monochrome lamp of imposing size, understated in both form and colour. This is a heavy lamp with a weight of 6.6kg/14.5lbs. The lamp shown with a pleated, ivory silk shade suggestion.
