A fine, mid 19th century, Chinese porcelain, baluster shaped antique lamp. The lamp well painted in a rich cobalt blue with a subject of boys at play, the boys watched by attentive mothers.
This subject known to the Chinese decorator as Wa Wa, literally, playing boys. The neck of the lamp turned with a simple bow string. The lamp seated in a custom made, American maple gilt-wood stand. The lamp shown with an ivory silk shade suggestion.
"Blue and white wares", known in China as "qīng-huā" which translates as "Blue flowers" and refers to white pottery and porcelain decorated under the glaze with blue pigment, generally cobalt oxide.
