E045 A Vintage Chinese Lamp With A Rich Turquoise Glaze-Circa 1950's

           "A Lamp On A Decorative Mission!"

A vintage Chinese bottle shaped table lamp.  The lamp with a rich monochrome turquoise glaze and decorated with underglaze incised lotus flowers and foliage.  The neck of the lamp underglaze decorated with a band of stylised plantain leaves. 

The bottle shape is purely a ceramic form, however, scholars believe that early Chinese ceramists were likely imitating similar silhouettes from ancient bronze vessels.  The bottle shape with it’s bulbous belly and long neck, both slender and round which embodies the spirit of yin and yang, combining harmonious matching opposite in one silhouette. 

In addition, this shape in Chinese, is known as Tian Qiu Ping, or heaven and earth shape.  The shape symbolising the ancient belief the the heaven was round and the earth was square.

This striking lamp seated in a custom made American maple wood base.  The base burnished in white gold leaf, the lamp cap of silver plated bronze.  The lamp shown with a pleated, ivory silk shade suggestion. A lamp on a decorative mission!
