"A Real One Of A Kind Lamp”
An ultra smart and completely unique, vintage Wedgwood neoclassic style, urn shaped lamp. The lamp with a black glaze, in the manner of Wedgwood’s 18th century black basalt and decorated with deep moulded swags suspended from evenly spaced classical rams heads. The rim of the urn with a band of wreath and flower moulding.
The cover and base of the lamp decorated with a border of classically moulded stiff leaved acanthus. The urn shaped lamp on a short soccle and standing on an acanthus moulded circular base. The lamp seated in a custom made, understated bronze, matte gold plated base in ormolu style. The restrained style of this lamp has been greatly influenced by the 18th century neo classic revival style introduced by Robert Adam. The lamp shown with a knife pleated, Brunswick green, silk lamp shade suggestion.
This unique, classically inspired Wedgwood lamp, was designed by David Lincoln Leese as a prototype, but the design never went into production. This is the only one in existence, which certainly gives this lamp the title of a “one of a kind lamp”!
Robert Adam -: Robert Adam FRS (1728 – 1792) was a Scottish neoclassical architect, interior designer and furniture designer. Robert Adam was a leader of the first phase of the classical revival in England and Scotland from around 1760 until his death. He influenced the development of Western architecture, both in Europe and in North America. Adam designed interiors and fittings as well as large piece architecture.
The interior decorations of Robert Adam mark the breakaway from the fashionable Palladian and rococo taste and the rise of the neoclassic style, which was to be popular for the next 30 years.
The “Adam” style was based on the enormous repertoire of classical motifs that Robert had built up in his five year stay in Rome and other continental capitals. Festoons of husks and bell flowers, swags and garlands. The freshness of the Adam style lay in the highly personal refinement, delicacy, and elegance that Robert gave them.
