G018 A Very Decorative English Art Deco Period Chinoiserie Lamp-Circa 1925

                       "Wow Factor!"

A very decorative and stylish, early 20th century, English, purpose made Chinoiserie lamp.  The lamp of the Art Deco era.  The lamp with a mirror black ground and lavishly gilded with a delicate Chinoiserie subject.  The black ground is derived from the Famille Noir, or black ground family of Chinese glaze colours.

The finely gilded subject of elaborate island pagodas surrounded by a watery landscape.  The pagodas overhung with willows and flowering prunus on gnarled wood.  The gilding of exceptionally fine quality.  The lamp seated in a custom-made, Chinese censer shaped, matte gold plated bronze stand.  The lamp cap matte gold plated.  The lamp shown with a pleated, black silk shade suggestion.

The lamp produced by A.G. Harley-Jones Co, manufacturers of fine porcelain and earthenware at Fenton, Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire.  Confusingly, the company was also known as The Royal Vienna Art Pottery and was in production from 1907-1934.  Very little information to date, has been published about this English factory.

This is a really stunning, Art Deco era lamp.  There is a very small production fault on the neck of the lamp which would have occurred in the original glaze firing.
